Empowering Women

DTC has been actively engaged in forging out links with Darfurian women who have the potential of transforming their local communities and contributing to building strong and vibrant communities. Over the year the DTC had successfully trained female volunteers in London and Edinburgh (a total of 25 females attended both training sessions) and later supported three trained volunteers to go to Darfur to train other women. ‘Training of trainers’ is our main approach to women empowerment. We also reached out to Darfurian women refugees located at eastern Chad (by sending our female volunteers, Halima and Zahra last February-March) where a couple of workshops had been organized – brining a large number of female participants to discuss a wide range of issues, from basic rights to education, health-care, access to drinking water, to wider issues such as good governance and the environment. We build on the reports of our volunteers as well as the feedbacks from participants in workshops and training sessions, to improve our practice as well as our approach to empowering Darfurian women. But these activities need to be sustained, if they are to have a lasting impact. Hence the importance of networking and building partnerships.
